College Marshaghai, Kendrapara has glorified its history since 1980, fulfilling the dreams of those illustrious sons of this soil. Now it is a leading college in Non-Govt. sector in Odisha. The idea and dream of establishing a Higher Educational Institution at Marshaghai first inculcated in the mind of. Late Sj. Rasananda Ratha, Late Sj. Prahallad Mallick, Late Sj. Dhruba Charan Swain, and Late Sj Raghunath Rath. The college is well communicated just one Km. south to Daitary-Paradeep N.H. 5(A) from Silipur and 7 Km from “Tulasikhetra” the abode of legendary God Lord Baladevjew in Kendrapara district. The place is believed to be named after one Marshal Sahib and famous as a pilgrim place for “Maa Gojabayani”.
The foundation stone of the college buildings was laid by Sj. Gangadhar Mohapatra, the Ex- Minister of Education on Kartika Purnima in the year 1980. Annually this day is observed as the ” Foundation Day of the college. “Two statues of Late Prahallad Mallick founder President, Ex-Deputy minister of irrigation & power, and Late Dhruba Charan Swain, founder Secretary were installed in front of the college building. Perpetuating their memory and their contribution to this college. The college started functioning in a temporary shed with two Non-Teaching Staff members (M.S. Behera and B. Das) on 11.07.1980. Subjects like English, MIL(O), Odia, History, Pol. Science, Sociology, Economics and Education were opened on 20.06.1980 and eight lecturers were appointed on 29.07.1980. Classes started functioning from 01.08.1980. Sri Debendra Nath Basantia, Lecturer-in- History acted as the first Principal of the College. The college began with an overwhelming number of students. 160 &
324 against traditional I.A. classes in the year 1980 and 1981 respectively.
The College opened avenues for the +2 Science Stream in the year 1983, with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. Traditional B.A. was opened in the year 1985. With the introduction of the New Education Policy, +2 Arts and Science classes were opened in the year 1983 & +2 Commerce in 2007. In the degree level +3 Arts, Science and Commerce were opened in the year 1986, 1989 and 2010 respectively. Honours facilities in Arts Subjects each having 24 seats from the session 2016-17. Honours in History, Pol. Science, Odia, Economics, Sociology and Education were made available from 1991. Later honours facilities in science subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics were provided in the year 1993. Zoology, Botany & English honours introduced since 2004. The college further offered subjects like Logic & Statistics both at +2 & +3 levels. Government Vocational faculty at +2 levels is continuing in this institution since 2004. The NAAC Peer Team accredited to this Higher Education Institution with C++ grade in the session 2005-06. The next NAAC Peer team visit scheduled on 17th,18th & 19th November of 2016 for reaccreditation of the College. In the College+2 Commerce opened in the year 2007 Subsequently +3 commerce opened in the year 2011 along with honours facilities from the year 2013, Honours in statistics has been introduced from the year 2013 which fulfils the needs of the students. At present students’ strength of this college approximately 2500. The college, at present has 49 teaching and 36 non-teaching staff members. In spite of the ravages of Super Cyclone and High Floods the college is proud enough to possess some massive structures from several sources like UGC Assistance, MP LAD, Students’ Development Fee and Governmental Grant-in-Aids. The College is also in the process of constructing a massive boundary wall around its 8.2 acres of land area. The College has a well-furnished library with number of text books, reference books, journals, magazines and periodicals. It has also Book Bank facility which caters to the needs of the students. This is known as ‘PRAHLLAD MALLICK MEMORIAL LIBRARY” named in the memory of Late Prahllad Mallick, ex- minister, Govt. of Odisha and the Founder President of the College. To develop employability and to meet variety of interests and aptitudes of the
youths, the college imparts vocational education in two trades namely Dairy Farming and CPM with Project Genesis Class. The College has organised two UGC Sponsored National Seminars in the subject of Sociology & Education in the session 2007-2008 also in Education & Political Science in the session 2015-16. Some staff of the College has also received UGC sponsored grants & ICSSR grants for conducting Minor Research Projects. The College has NSS units, for girls at +2 levels, and both boys & girls at +3 levels apart from, it has a Hostel for girls with an accommodation capacity for 170 boarders adjacent to it, another Hostel Building sanctioned by TRW Dept. of Govt. of India is nearing Completion. A new Hostel for girls under the UGC grant of 11th plan has been inaugurated by Hon’ble M.L.A., Mohakalpara constituency Mr. Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, on 17th Sept.’2010. The college has two staff quarters, a guest house, a Play Ground and a beautiful garden in its campus. The college has opened a Health Centre and a Grievance Cell and it has also a proposal to open a GYMNASIUM Soon. It has also a Red Cross Society, Science Society, and Commerce & Education Societies working effectively. At present Prof. Mrs. Krishna Acharya, Principal of the College acts as the secretary and Mr. Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, Hon’ble M.L.A., Mohakalpara & Former Minister, Govt. of Odisha as the President of the Governing Body both in Junior and Degree level. Our achievement in 2011-12 are opening of Commerce at +3 level, e-admission for +3 class, NSS Unit at +2 level, conducting a UGC Sponsored carrier counselling and placement cell, conducting seminar activities, remedial classes, parent-teacher meet, incorporating ICT based teaching-learning facilities in class-room, formation of grievance redressal cell, anti-ragging cell, women’s harassment cell and alumni association. The College adopted the ‘Performance Tracking Cell’ guideline and Common Minimum Standard guideline 2016-17 designed by the Dept. of Higher Education, Odisha. As a developing institution, it is surging ahead to fulfil the academic needs of the future and will live up to the expectations of the rural masses.
